Admission criteria
What counts as a term
Specialized domain
It names a concept of documentation, content, localization, or interface work, not a general-language idea.
Definable concept
It takes an intensional definition: a broader concept plus the characteristics that set it apart.
Lexical unity
Its form is stable; swapping or adding words changes or breaks the concept.
Attested usage
Standards, terminology banks, or specialist literature use it beyond this site.
Designation, not message
It names something. Sentences, slogans, calls to action, and evaluative phrases are not terms.
Localization method
Purpose first; equivalence with context
The site uses a functional, sociocultural approach: the target text must do the same job for its reader, in its actual interface, without losing factual fidelity.
- 01
Define the skopos
Identify the reader, surface, action, register, and evidence before choosing words. A hero line and a case-study paragraph may express the same idea differently.
- 02
Research the concept
Check the project termbase first, then terminology banks, authoritative product documentation, comparable corpora, and established professional usage.
- 03
Review language and space together
Test meaning, cultural fit, wrapping, control size, accessibility, metadata, and responsive behavior. A shorter adaptation is valid when it preserves the intended function.
Research trail
Sources consulted and contrasted
Institutional terminology banks establish a baseline; standards guidance, product documentation, research, and industry usage help resolve context and interface constraints.
